“Ash and Diamond”, “Man of Iron”, “Promised Land”, “Katyn” — without these films, both Polish and world cinema would be much poorer. Andrzej Wajda is one of the most important Polish directors and co-creator of the Polish film school. On the centenary of his birth and the tenth anniversary of his death, in the Year of Andrzej Wajda we invite you to a concert of music from his films. The master collaborated with the best: Andrzej Korzyński, Tadeusz Baird, Jan Krenz, Krzysztof Penderecki, Krzysztof Komeda, Paweł Mykietyn... It seems that his films, which capture difficult contemporary problems in the frame, are illustrated by a variety of contemporary music of the best quality. He was particularly keen (six times) to use the talent of Wojciech Kilar, with whom he had been friends for many years and whose music he greatly appreciated. Sometimes he also turned to the works of late composers, such as Chopin, Szymanowski or Beethoven, as well as patriotic songs and folk melodies. He consciously used silence. The music in Wajda's films is not only an ornament, but plays an important dramatic role and builds emotions. As a true master, he was able to take care of all dimensions of film art, leaving us finished works in every way.
