al. Jana Pawła II 232, Kraków

Three entities: vision, emotion and executive matter. The spirit of Andrzej Wajda's cinema, the heart of Wojciech Kilar's music and the performing body of the Silesian Song and Dance Ensemble merge into one stage experience. This is not a biographical spectacle. It is a story of a human journey through stages: from birth, through time and choice, to the experience of community and silence. About a man immersed in history and in himself.

About the event

Three entities: vision, emotion and executive matter. The spirit of Andrzej Wajda's cinema, the heart of Wojciech Kilar's music and the performing body of the Silesian Song and Dance Ensemble merge into one stage experience. This is not a biographical spectacle. It is a story of a human journey through stages: from birth, through time and choice, to the experience of community and silence. About a man immersed in history and in himself.

Wajda is the mind and direction here. His cinema sets the frame of meaning. It is thinking about exile and return, about transformation, about identity, about a community that has been put to the test of time. Wajda's paintings are not quoted verbatim. They are present as a spirit and a way of looking at a person going through life.

Kilar is the heart of the project. His music forms the core of the whole concept: monumental, focused, saturated sacrum. It twists the world of film with the living matter of the scene, carries a communal pulse and gives the whole a spiritual gravity. It is she who organizes the rhythm of transitions, builds tension and opens the space of meaning. In the performance we will hear the most beautiful compositions of Wojciech Kilar, coming from the films “The Leprechaun”, “The Promised Land” or “The Pianist”, among others.

Silesia is the body of this idea. With voice, movement, dance and collective presence. Tradition is not confined here within the framework of folklore, but becomes the living fabric of the theatre: a gesture that weighs, a step that remembers, a song that carries community. Thanks to the performers, Wajda's vision and Kilar's emotion materialize in a real, physical experience of the scene.

From the spirit, the heart and the body, a being is created. Being present. It doesn't play a role. It does not pretend to be a symbol. It just is. The viewer is drawn into this process without an invitation, as if the event itself opened the door to the interior for him. When the triad merges into a single whole, a gap in time is opened—the moment when man experiences himself as part of a larger order, as if for a moment he were touching his beginning and his own end at the same time.

The form of the performance arises from the combination of folk and contemporary dance, theatrical dramaturgy and choir singing. All these elements form a single stage matter, in which the image, sound and body work in parallel, building a common narrative.

“Wajda Kilar Silesia” does not consist of quotations. It translates the senses of cinema into the language of the scene: the image triggers the memory, the music lifts, the body embodies. It is a concert-performance about a man immersed in history, looking for meaning between the first breath and the last silence.

The performance takes the form of a multimedia show, realized by the artists of the ballet, choir and orchestra of the Stanisław Hadyna Song and Dance Ensemble “Silesia”, in full artistic composition.
