An epic masterpiece by Andrzej Wajda, recognized as one of the most spectacular and important films in the history of Polish cinema. A timeless, extremely current story about the birth of 20th century capitalism, the cruelty of elites, the collapse of values and the ruthless struggle for money, placed alongside classics such as “Metropolis” or “Until the Blood is Spilled”.
Young Polish landowner Karol, German entrepreneur Max and Jewish merchant Moryc decide to join forces and set up their own factory in 19th century Łódź. The realization of the dream of great wealth draws them into a whirlwind of social contrasts, exploitation and a brutal game in which there is no place for former ideals and morals.
The main roles are played by outstanding actors: Daniel Olbrychski, Andrzej Seweryn and Wojciech Pszoniak. Produced with great scenographic splendor, the production impresses with daring photographs by a team of cinematographers and an excellent visual setting reflecting the harsh atmosphere of an industrial moloch.
