Richard Strauss:Sechs Lieder op. 17Morgen op. 27 nr 4
Antonina Ruda SopranVioletta Fluda-Tkaczyk piano
“Sechs Lieder” Op. 17 was composed in 1887, when Richard Strauss was only 23 years old. They show a young composer who develops his extraordinary talent and understanding of the human voice while still in the world of late Romanticism. Love, longing, nature and transience create an intimate emotional landscape in which the piano co-creates the atmosphere of each of the poetic images.
The program is rounded off by “Morgen”, one of Strauss's most famous songs, composed a few years later to a poem by John Henry Mackay. Its unusualness comes from restraint: instead of a climax and a glamorous gesture, Strauss chooses silence, suspension and anticipation. The vision of two people meeting “tomorrow” in the light of the sun becomes almost an out-of-hours image of closeness.
