Layers” is a choreographed tale of care, care and radical imagination. Katarzyna Żeglicka and Alicja Czyczel invite you to a world where weakness becomes a strength and solidarity a tool in the fight against oppression. Combining herstory, queer feminism and carnal practices, the artists speculate on an anti-capitalist and anti-patriarchal reality based on love and community.
About the show
INSPIRATIONS
The starting point for the play is the fate of the rebels from the book “Simplified Reading” by Cristina Morales and the life of Frida Kahlo. They are united by disagreement with the existing reality and courage in creating a world in which there is room for everything important.
RELAXED PERFORMANCE FORMULA
The performance takes place in the formula of relaxed performance, which means that:You can freely change position (sit, lie, stand) and move around the room. You do not have to maintain silence — react as you feel.It is a space open to going beyond the normative schemes of perception of art.About the artist
Katarzyna Żeglicka
Crip is a performer, choreographer, theatre educator and cultural animator. Participant of many artistic programs and residencies in Poland and abroad. In her work, she combines education, advocacy for inclusivity and the presence of artists with disabilities in culture. She conducts workshops in the field of inclusive choreography and body work. It cooperates with cultural institutions, universities and non-governmental organizations.
Alicja Czyczel
choreographer, dancer/performer and cultural scholar. Graduate of interdisciplinary humanities studies at the University of Warsaw and Paris-Sorbonne and choreography at ICI-CCN Montpellier. She creates stage choreographies (solo “body, voice” 2019), collective and interdisciplinary performance projects (LAGMA 2020) and site-specific walks, drawing on the ecology of sound (“Bouger le pays, une balade du jeudi” 2019). Thanks to numerous scholarship programs (Młoda Polska 2018, Alternative Dance Academy 2018, DanceWeb 2019, Kultura w Sieci 2020), she manages to continue her choreographic practice and develop artistic research outside the strict context of the production and distribution of dance performances. Performer in projects by artist Joanna Piotrowska and choreographer Vincent Dupont. She worked with the Burdąg Foundation as a communication specialist, with the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw as an educator, and published in the magazine about contemporary music “Glissando”. Her artistic practice is based on intuition, the study of materiality and the creation of sensual fictions.
