About the event

A meeting inspired by the seventh volume of the series Plans of Warsaw — Kriegs-Karten und Vermessungsamt Warschau. Warsaw Plan 1942—1944. Stadtplan Warschau by Prof. Jacek Leociak and Dr. Paweł E. Weszpiński.

The editions of the German city plan — Stadtplan Warschau — drawn up by the Kriegs-Karten und Vermessungsamt Warschau (Military Office of Cartography and Surveys in Warsaw) in 1942—1944 contain a story about the city's space divided into zones and marked by the presence of the occupier.

The interlocutors, Dr. Paweł E. Weszpiński and Maciej Kasprzak, will examine the phenomenon of inaccessibility, which determined the everyday life of the inhabitants of wartime Warsaw. The starting point for the discussion will be classified German and Polish conspiratorial plans for Warsaw, guides and service instructions for Wehrmacht soldiers, as well as archival photographs.

Dr. Paweł E. Weszpiński — geographer, cartographer, curator and Plenipotentiary of the Director of the Museum of Warsaw for programs, researcher of the history of Warsaw cartography and the old plans of the city. Member of the History of Cartography team of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Substantive editor and co-author of the volumes of the Plany Warszawy series (2014—2025).

Maciej Kasprzak — collector of old plans and books devoted to Warsaw. Founder of @papierowa_wawa's social media profile.
