About the event

Less than twenty years after the invention of permanent photography in France, the first photo salon is created in Warsaw. Its owner is fascinated by the possibilities of this technique. He believes in its rapid development, keeps his hand on the pulse, and so far he makes a lot of portraits. Portraits of people and... cities.

The variety of shots, themes and images presented slowly attracts Warsaw residents to photography. New photographic plants are being set up in the city, which use new photographic techniques, giving even better opportunities, such as photo duplication. Photography is becoming more and more widespread. She slowly enters the houses, appears on the spades of the press, until she becomes a companion of our urban everyday life.

Professor Błażej Brzostek will tell us about its history in the capital and the importance of photography in the development of Warsaw in the 19th and 20th centuries.

Błażej Brzostek - historian, employee of the Museum of Warsaw and the University of Warsaw, deals with social history, the history of Warsaw, recently also works on the history of time and watchmaking.
