workshops accompanying the temporary exhibition [Adolph Menzel (1815—1905). The Tireless Observer] (https://www.mnw.art.pl/wystawy/adolph-menzel-18151905-niestrudzony-obserwator,277.html)
Hosted by: Maciej Cholewa

What does work do to a person?” It is possible that a similar question also bothered Adolph Menzl. In his late work, an important place was occupied by the innovative portrayal of work and changing reality at the time. The artist depicted workers, tools, machines and daily activities, paying attention not only to the subject itself, but also to the gesture, effort, matter and conditions in which the work takes place. During the workshop, we will look together at the traces that work leaves in our bodies, memory, way of thinking and environment — because, no matter what activity we take, doing it always shapes us in some way. The dry needle technique has a lot in common with work: it requires the use of tools, pressure, repetitive gestures, patience and gradual elaboration of the surface. During the workshop, each participant will prepare their own matrix, learn the basics of gravure printing and make a print on the press. It is not necessary to have any experience. All you need is curiosity, the desire to leave a mark and a willingness to get dirty with paint.
