How is it possible that a simple arrangement of black squares can transport us to a web page, and a needle sliding on a vinyl record turns into the sounds of music? What makes our brain able to read a word even if the letters in it are jumbled up, and why can the same word mean both acceptance and hidden irritation? Check it out on November 6th and 20th during the Adult Workshops!
During the meetings, we will take a closer look at the mechanisms of data encoding and encryption — both from the perspective of modern technologies and human psychology. We will learn how our cognitive system decodes sensory stimuli, how machines read images and sounds, and why the code only works if the sender and receiver have a common rule for reading it.
during the workshop, among others:
test the limits of QR codes and check when the phone stops reading the information
you will learn the principles of ciphers, binary system and barcodes
you will learn how context, culture and interpersonal relationships influence the interpretation of the same message
you will find that the information that reaches our brain does not always look the same as the objects we actually see around us
