As part of the Bydgoszcz Academy of Art, we invite you to “Weaving workshops on bardku — from the basics to choosing patterns”, which will be led by Kinga Willim.

Workshop Schedule

16.00 — 17.00 — the basics of weaving on the bardk — familiarization with the tool and the basic technique of weaving by creating a narrow bracelet

17.00 — 17.30 — break from work, discussion of the conclusions of the first attempt, rules for creating own formulas for the basic method

17.30 — 20.00 — preparation of the warp for weaving with picking, selection of patterns and work on folk lace, which can be used as a decoration for clothing, key leash, ribbon, belt.

Description of techniques

Bardku weaving is a technique for creating narrow strips of fabric that can be used as straps for a dress, trousers, guitar, dress hem, hair ornaments, hats or jewelry elements.

In the workshop we will focus on the basics of warp preparation, the principles of pattern design and the weaving of the first cuts. The second stage will be acquaintance with the method of weaving with the selection of the pattern by the Baltic method.

About the host

Kinga Willim — a physicist and chemist by education, a weaver and spinner by passion. For several years he has been exploring different methods of braiding threads and passing this knowledge on. He conducts workshops for adults and children, promoting work with wool as a method to calm down, focus on the “here and now” with a tangible end result.
