Senior Weekend with Culture 2026 — Silver Liningz — workshops with Piotr Bujak

As part of the Senior Weekend with Culture, we invite you to a two-day workshop for seniors, the aim of which is to bring contemporary hip-hop culture closer.

Participants of the workshop will reach for selected lyrics of rap songs and try to interpret, rhythm and melorecite them. An important part of the meetings will be to observe what happens when we come into contact with an unknown cultural code: how the way we understand texts and re-read them from the perspective of our own experiences changes. The workshops do not assume the science of rapping. Their goal is an intergenerational encounter through the contemporary language of culture, breaking stereotypes about age and searching for new forms of expression and communication. The meeting will end with a joint performance activity, inspired by the form of hip-hop battles.

The most important thing in this whole process will not be the perfect performance, but what will happen during the encounter with rap: what senses, emotions and personal experiences will trigger a previously unknown cultural code. The project invites you to look at familiar roles from a different perspective — older people become performers of music usually associated with youth, and rap acquires new voices and new meanings.

Piotr Bujak

Polish interdisciplinary artist and researcher, born in 1982 in Będzin. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow (2009) and San Francisco Art Institute (2012). He received his doctorate from Tama Art University in Tokyo in 2022. It has been operating between Poland and Japan for almost a decade. He is primarily interested in the potential of transcultural artistic activities exploring the ways in which media and power systems shape individual and social identity and perception, as well as criticism of consumerism and visibility mechanisms. Addressing issues of tactical materiality, visual epistemology, autoethnography, and participatory multi-site ethnography, he combines artistic creativity with experimental anthropology and contemporary social criticism. In his practice, he mainly uses the strategies of DIY, Quick and Dirty, Low Budget and Hit & Run, developed in dialogue with the traditions of conceptualism, minimalism, late avant-garde and arte povera.
