About the event

The reconstructed Berlin Palace is a place where colonial claims to power from different periods can also be seen and experienced. The themed tour invites you to explore the political and cultural role of the castle since the 16th century and to understand how colonial world politics were formed.

With reference to the Berlin Africa Conference of 1884, the tour takes you through central areas of the Humboldt Forum. It becomes clear how the castle became a stage for imperial representation under Emperor Wilhelm II and how the claim to world politics is reflected in architecture and collections. Historical objects from non-European contexts as well as contemporary artistic positions encourage a critical examination of the legacy of colonialism. The tour vividly links exhibition areas with the history of the location and is suitable as an introduction to a complex and widely discussed topic.
