About the event

Mateusz Pięta (born in 1996 in Kielce) is a graduate of the Faculty of Art at the Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce. In 2023, he defended his master's degree in painting and workshop graphics with distinction. Laureate of the Scholarship of the Minister of Education and Science for significant artistic achievements.

The starting point for his painting is the experience of reality as a space that cannot be known in a total way. The artist is interested in what remains between recognition and ignorance, fragments of places, images of memory, bodily experiences and forms appearing on the border between the real and the imagined. His paintings do not reconstruct specific spaces, but try to capture their influence on man. They are records of momentary contact with reality, which is constantly changing and at the same time changing the observer. Therefore, the forms that appear in them remain unstable: they can resemble a body, a landscape, an organism, architecture, or something that cannot be called unambiguously. In this way, painting becomes a space for the study of transformation, both the world we observe and the way we experience it. The artist works mainly in oil technique, using color, matter and structure of the painting to build ambiguous, psychologically tense spaces.
