Views Transfigured is a meeting of two women and two forms of storytelling — photography and painting, looking and stopping the moment in the frame, recording the image with colour. It is a project in which the same story is snared with great care. The exhibition is a meeting between documentation and interpretation, between what is captured and what is processed by memory and intuition. The artists' works, shown side by side, form a common story about the seascape — they invite the viewer to look at the world through their eyes, and to reinterpret the captured image through their own experience, memory and emotions.
About the event
On Friday, 9 October, there will be a vernissage of the exhibition, during which you will be able to listen to how the authors talk about their photographs and paintings, and take part in a conversation about their work and ways of looking at reality. We invite you, free admission!
The authors met in the attic of a Sopot tenement house, at a table of mutual friends. It was there that the idea of an exhibition was born, in which their gazes would be able to stand side by side. Kaśka Wielochowska looks at the shots of the city, the detail, the sea, the countryside, observes with attention the light and rhythm of the places — and tries to stop the moment in the photograph. Dorota Kamińska translates the same observation into the language of color and texture. Her paintings are not an illustration of photography, but a separate interpretation of vision — an attempt to record the mood in the image.
The sea becomes not only a theme here, but also a space of variability. The light, the weather, the time of day and the perspective make the coastal landscape constantly slip away from one final image. What is captured in photography as a specific moment returns in painting as a memory, a mood or a longing. The combined works of the artists tell about the presence, the experience of space and the need to keep an eye on the seemingly ordinary — and yet different each time.
The title “transformation” does not mean a departure from reality, but an in-depth reading of it.
Views Transformed is a story about the sea as a landscape seen, remembered and felt — a place that reveals itself differently each time. The authors invite you to look at the world in different languages of art.
