A hysterical fit of laughter from Czepec and the Journalist after the famous words “What's up, sir, in politics?” , and immediately afterwards the collision with the wall of the sounds of black metal Fury, repeating the dance of the wedding guests — this is how dynamically begins the “Wedding” AD 2017 directed by Jan Klata. Although instead of a picturesque Bronowice hut, we are dealing with a land in constant reconstruction, the director does not modernize the drama by force: scaffolding designed by Justyna Łagowska, wrapped in black film, a chopped tree stump and an empty chapel mark a disturbing scenery in which two alien worlds meet. About the event

Existing separately — jaded, devoid of verve and charisma “the city” and the rubastic “people”, full of strength, blindly seeking an outlet — uniting only in moments of dance trance. Around the stage, on four monumental pedestals, stand musicians with white and black faces — contemporary mules. It is to the rhythm of their music that the action takes place, conducted “half mocking, half serious”, but in moments of ecstatic choreographic arrangements by Maćko Prusak reaching boiling point. After a while, however, the heroes will fall into another slump, “playing only with dreams”, eternally waiting for a sign.

It is a “Wedding” without a mullet dance in the finale, because the chocholi dance continues in it constantly. At the same time, it is a unique manifestation of the strength of the multi-generational acting ensemble of the Old Theater and fits perfectly into the mission of the national stage. He treats literary classics with respect, thanks to phenomenal actors, making every word of Wyspiański's text resonate.
