This is the first “Wedding” in Olsztyn since the staging of Adam Hanuszkiewicz in 1996. Although a good moment has passed since that premiere, in the current performance we will see some performers from the previous production. Joanna Fertacz plays Councillor again, Ewa Pałuska-Shozda was then Haneczka, today she is the Housekeeper, and Cezary Ilczyna — then Ghost — now Father and Hetman. Apart from them, almost the entire acting ensemble of the Jaracz Theater reinforced by the students of the Alexander Sewruk Postsecondary Acting Study, with less than thirty people on the stage. It's a real acting treat.

About the event

The play was directed by the young director Sławomir Narloch, already famous in the country. For years he ran the offstage Pijana Sypialnia Theatre in Warsaw, but he prepared not at all small, but impressive shows there. In the capital's National Theater, he realized Alice's Wonderland based on Lewis Carroll's books and this performance was unanimously hailed as an event. “The wedding” is another challenge on his creative path, perhaps even more turbulent than the previous one.

As the director announced, we got a story about love. It is not without reason that the play begins with the question of Zosi “I would like to love, but so much, very strongly.” This is the motivation that accompanies all the characters. Political issues take a back seat this time. Olsztyn's “Wedding” is ruled by the element of love, triggering storms of feelings and unbridled passions. In front of you is a show full of momentum, music, singing and dancing. Sławomir Narloch points out that the wedding guests came to the Bronowice hut to celebrate love and — although it was close — they did not throw scythes at each other, but sustained the wound. He wants the “Wedding” faithful to Wyspiański, so he renounces any comments and changes to the original, but understandable to the modern viewer. He dreamed of a spectacle that was a celebration of love, vibrant with youth, pulsating with today's emotions. That is why the music by Jakub Gawlik is played live by a band led by Mateusz Cwaliński.

The group consists of: Wojciech Bergiel (saxophones), Natalia Ciukszo-Wodzicka (double bass), Mateusz Cwaliński (piano, accordion), Andrzej Regiec (trumpet) and Konrad Wieteska (drums) and students of the brass instruments section of the Fryderyk State Music School I and II degree Chopin in Olsztyn, under the direction of Łukasz and Liliana Przyborowski.

Wyspiański's art also has something to do with it that it is always up to date. It is said that “Wedding” is like a barometer that always indicates the weather in Poland. You have to see this spectacle, it is absolutely obvious.
