Video library “PopTok”: Rewind the tape: “Others”, dir. Alejandro Amenábar (2001), 104'

do you smell the smell of a residential rental, the noise of scrolling tape and the excitement of picking tapes for the weekend? Video library “PopTok”: Rewind the tape is a new cycle in which we give a second life to megahits from years ago and transfer them to the cinema screen.

Once a month, we reach for titles that once reigned supreme on VHS. After the screening, we will tell you about the history of the watched film like any self-respecting employee of the video library — we invite you to a joint discussion. Remember to rewind the tape!

During the October PopTok event, Michał Miller and Marek Szczepański will take to the workshop the cult film “Others” by Alejandro Amenábar, starring Nicole Kidman.

In 1945, in a huge, mist-drenched Victorian house, Grace (Nicole Kidman) waits for the return of her husband from the war and alone raises two children suffering from a rare disease: sunlight can kill them. So the house is governed by iron rules — the curtains remain drawn, and no door can be opened until the previous one has been closed. As three new servants stand on the doorstep, and the children begin to talk about the other inhabitants of the house that no one but them sees, Grace's precision-built order begins to break. Because there's someone else in this house. The only question is, who is the guest here?
