Opera singer Diana Damrau has already performed on the biggest stages of the world: among others the Opernhaus Zürich, the Staatsoper Wien, the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, La Scala in Milan, the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Royal Opera House in London and the Opéra national de Paris. She became known as a sensational interpreter of the parts Pamina and the Queen of the Night in Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Magic Flute, Rozyna in Gioachin Rossini's Cyrillic of Seville and Leïla in Georges Bizet's The Pearl Fishers. The international press does not spare her praise — as the Italian music critic Elvio Giudici wrote in 2015: “Her magnificent virtuosity [...] — every sung passage, note, trill, messa di voce [sound] grows and rises to an expressive chiaroscuro [chiaroscuro], tearing the soul and constantly oscillating between joy and melancholy.”
The artist is equally highly regarded for her chamber performances. Her recitals of romantic lied are very popular and attract crowds of listeners. During the evening of songs at the National Philharmonic, the singer will be accompanied by Helmut Deutsch — an experienced accompanist who has already recorded three albums with Diana Damrau: in 2006 an album with works by Clara and Robert Schumann, Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, Fryderyk Chopin and Ferenc Liszt; in 2011 — with songs by List Zta; and in 2018 — Hugon Wolf's Italienisches Liederbuch. Their wonderful cooperation will fill this magical, moody evening with stormy emotions, aroused by the unfading beauty of the human voice.
