Evening with Janusz Zaorski at the National Film Culture Centre

Janusz Zaorski — director, screenwriter and film producer, a graduate of the Łódź Film Festival, creator of “Mother of Kings”, “Lake Constance”, “Football Poker” and “Happy New York”, winner of the Silver Bear in Berlin and the Golden Leopard in Locarno — will be a guest of the National Film Culture Centre on 27 October. The meeting will be the premiere of the book “Mieszkam w kinie” — a conversation between the director and Dr. Jarosław Grzechowiak. After its completion, there will be parallel screenings of the films “Room with a View of the Sea” (1977) in the Odeon Hall and “The Mermaid of Picasso” (2026) in the Urania Hall.

The meeting will be the premiere of the book “Mieszkam w kinie” — a conversation between Janusz Zaorski and Jarosław Grzechowiak. The witty conversation between two film enthusiasts turns into a surprising journey through the creator's next films. Mother of Kings, Lake Constance, Football Poker or Happy New York are works that have been awarded, discussed, stopped by censorship and, years later, discovered by successive generations of viewers. They also become the starting point for telling stories from the set and drawing colorful portraits of other artists.

It is also a story about the director's private life, about a vacation with Mila's grandmother and his first travels. Flavors and smells of childhood. About the wonderful and crazy years spent in the temple of art, which was then the Lodz Filmówka, and the unique atmosphere of work in the “X” ensemble. About a strong relationship with his brother. The most difficult scenes to direct. And about how he played a vampire.
