The Witcher 25th Anniversary (re-release)

“The Witcher” Directed by Marek Brodzki Poland, 2001, 130 minutes

The Witcher Geralt of Rivia, also called the White Wolf, like all representatives of the witchcraft, is tasked with fighting monsters that threaten people. When he accidentally saves the lives of ruler Cintra Calanthe and her psychically gifted daughter Pavetta, the Queen gratefully takes him to her court. Geralt takes part in a feast during which Pavetta's marriage to one of the noble-born gentlemen is to be decided. The celebration is unexpectedly disrupted by the appearance of a steel-chained knight, calling himself the Hedgehog, who claims to have exclusive rights to the princess's hand. In doing so, he invokes the old Law of Surprise, explaining that a dozen years earlier he had saved Pavetta's father's life and demanded in return something that the ruler did not expect to find at home when he returned. The king agreed, not knowing that his wife was expecting a child. When the Hedgehog, thanking Geralt for saving his life, offers him everything he wants, the Witcher also decides to use the Law of Surprise. Soon Pavetta reveals that she is pregnant. From now on, Geralt's life will forever be inextricably linked with Ciri - the daughter of Pavetta and Hedgehog.
