Mass in C minor KV 427 called “Great” is one of the most monumental and moving sacred works in the history of music. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's unfinished composition impresses with its extraordinary expressiveness, richness of sound and masterful combination of choir, orchestra and solo parts. Completely completed were: Kyrie, Gloria, Sanctus, Benedictus and the first link in the Creed. Complementing the work probably with excerpts from other of his Masses, Mozart presented it on August 25, 1783 in Salzburg. Later, he did not find time to finish it.
The creation of this work is connected with the romantic promise of Mozart, who vowed to compose a mass if Constance Weber became his wife. This promise has been fulfilled and the music of the resulting Mass is full of drama, spiritual depth and Baroque momentum.
For more than two centuries, the work has invariably moved audiences around the world. The concert is a unique opportunity to meet a masterpiece that combines emotional intensity with the beauty of classical form.
The soloists, Choir and Orchestra of the Grand Theatre in Łódź will be conducted by Agnieszek Franków-Żelazny from behind the conductor's desk.
