Charlie suffers from extreme obesity. He does not leave the house, he works remotely. His life is static and monotonous, and his time is measured by successive visits by a nurse. A certain consolation for him remains an essay about the novel “Moby Dick”, which he reads to himself from time to time, however, in his life the only immutable element is loneliness. Abandoned, living somewhere on the sidelines, not in contact with people - one day he decides to try to change this situation. One decision makes long-unseen, but also new people appear in his life. Is that enough to get Charlie's life back on track?

Samuel D. Hunter's play “The Whale” is best known primarily for its acclaimed film adaptation of Darren Aronofsky with the Oscar-winning role of Brendan Fraser. Cezi Studniak, working for the first time at the Silesian Theatre as a director, undertook the preparation of the Polish premiere of this title. In his play, he looks at the themes of loneliness and acceptance of his own identity, but above all he is interested in the question of dependence on interpersonal relationships, which can bring peace and good, but can also be toxic and painful. This is a story that moves theatre audiences all over the world — now it's time for Polish audiences.
