Film screening and meeting | Tomasz Raczek, Marcin Szczygielski
An event dedicated to the theme of trauma and post-trauma of children who witnessed World War II and how their stories are told in film and literature. We invite you to reflect together on what remains when the armed conflict is over.
The event is aimed at people over 16 years of age. No records apply.
The starting point will be the screening of the film “Werewolf” directed by Adrian Pank (2018). This poignant story is about a group of children who, after leaving the concentration camp, try to start their lives anew. They protect themselves in an abandoned house in the middle of the forest. When it seems that the worst is behind them, it turns out that a seemingly safe space may harbor more dangers. Adrian Pank's film shows that the end of the war does not mean the end of the fear that remains with man for a long time.
After the screening, there will be a conversation with Tomasz Raczek and Marcin Szczygielski, devoted to the ways of portraying the war trauma of children in film and literature. We will talk about how the creators tell about the experiences of the youngest, how art allows us to talk about what is difficult to express, and how war experiences can affect the whole later life. The conversation will be moderated by Agnieszka Kowalczyk-Nowak, Deputy Director for Audience and Communication.
