Whether cats and tomcats listen to Williams election songs has not been proven, but people demonstrably come out of piano cabaret artist William Wahl's solo recitals with joy.
Now having won several awards, the head of the a-cappella band Basta presents his second full-length program with “Nacht sind alle Tasten grau”. In this, with impressive elegance and comedic subtlety, he once again bridges the gap between cabaret and art, comedy and piano.
In doing so, he addresses both the pitfalls of the zeitgeist and the big and unchanging questions of life. He looks at the celebratory spirit of his hometown of Cologne with a loving and mocking way, sings about female drivers of white SUVs and struggles with the pitfalls of gender in his solo a cappella number “Interior Designers.” Without forgetting the most important of all topics — love, to which he dedicates songs that are both moving and bitterly angry.
In “Nacht sind alle Tasten grau”, William Wahl once again combines the comic with the poetic, the depth of thought with cheerful ease. Masterly!
