About the event

It is not possible to buy a ticket “on your knees”.

The partner of the show is the Krakow Museum.

Stanisław Wyspiański is, on the one hand, a multi-talented, almost monumental Krakow writer and playwright, and on the other — an excellent visual artist, master of color, author of pastels and stained glass.

We, however, are trying to imagine an ordinary cheerful boy. We want to draw the attention of children, not so much to his work, but to the sensitivity with which he approached the world. Little Stas once marveled at the nature around him. He was delighted with the light and the shadow, he was delighted with the colour and shape. He ran through the streets of Krakow, trampled his paths on Planty and Błonie. We invite you to contemplate his processed works, to play, which with childish curiosity explores the merging of colors and amazes with the diversity of vegetation.

Works of art are at your fingertips. They are in the meadow, hiding in the rays of the sun, which overexpose the leaflets and delicate petals of flowers. In our theatrical journey we refer to the Herbarium, stained glass windows and portraits of an adult Stanisław Wyspiański. We use elements of the theater of light, shadow and movement.

We invite you to a common safe space, where Wyspiański's paintings and stained-glass windows come to life. We are sure that if he were alive, he would have brought his children to the Grotesque Theater to look at the world through colored slides together with the creators.

Despite the multitude of means used, the spectacle does not overwhelm at any time. The experience is designed to sensitize children to stimuli. There are many moments in which young viewers are suggested to listen to the rustles, noises or chirps emerging from nature. This is the highest level of care for the sensuality of the recipient — without unnecessary manipulations or shortcuts.

Szymon Białobrzeski, Theatre for All

Drawn flowers come to life on stage like living stained-glass windows, light penetrating through colored elements builds painterly images, and the theater of shadows allows them to constantly change. One of the actresses turns her dress into a blooming meadow, the other becomes a butterfly and a poppy at the same time. Everything is in motion, as if nature itself wants to tell another story. Complementing this story is music. Glass cymbals, the sound of which changes under the influence of water, the sounds of a carriage, a trumpet and songs sung live create a very coherent, Cracovian atmosphere. You can also see great attention to the performance - the actors sing cleanly, and the music does not just illustrate the events, but becomes a natural extension of them.
