Fibro-weaving machines

“Włókniarki” is a show for adult viewers (16+), based on Marta Madejska's book “Aleja Włókniarek” published in 2018 about the textile industry workers in Łódź. These were women who went to work when they were more than a dozen years old, and from that moment on, the rhythm of their lives was set by a ticking clock, at the rate of which the yarn had to walk “like a horse in a cart”, and her whole life was divided into three stages: the factory, the hospital and the cemetery. Low-paid, sexually abused, prematurely aged and at the same time female protagonists.

However, the stories of the Łódź textile mills have become the driving force of change. Their work caused a coup, forcing the introduction of new laws and triggering a moral revolution. The main roles in the play were played by women, eight actresses from Łódź Harlequin.

The performance directed by Tomasz Man with rock music specially written for him, played live, became an excellent example of showing the “herstoria” of Łódź.

The performance was realized as part of the action Touch the Theater on the occasion of the celebration of International Theater Day.
