Double bass in the role of the main narrator — subtle, melodic, revealing the richness of its sound. On December 29, Wojtek Mazolewski will perform with the project “Solo” at the NCK - St. John's Center. The concert will take place as part of the Pomorski Jazz series.
The leader of Pink Freud and Wojtek Mazolewski Quintet will show the intimate, personal side of his work. In “Solo” melody, space and emotions come to the fore. Instead of a show of virtuosity, the artist proposes a musical story in which the double bass becomes a voice — tender, expressive and full of nuances.
“Solo” is a moody, almost cinematic story without words. Mazolewski discovers in it the melodic possibilities of the double bass, building compositions that develop unhurriedly and gradually reveal further sonic details.
The acoustic sound of the instrument meets delicate electronics, harp, flute, percussion instruments and whispers. The album was co-produced by Wojtek Mazolewski and Wojtek Urbański and mastered by Ben Rawlins. The harpist Marysia Osu makes a guest appearance on it.
The diversity of this musical world is shown by the singles “My Works Of Art” and “Dark Ecology”. The first combines whispered poetry with the subtle melody of the double bass, the second attracts with a hypnotic pulse and refers to Timothy Morton's reflection on the interdependence of people and the environment.
The December concert will be an opportunity to meet this version of Mazolewski's work live — in the Gothic interior of the NCK - St John's Centre.
