What if Polish history was told not by dates and events, but by music? And if this music were this time a song-story about the Polish soul, the need for freedom and a sense of community?
On the occasion of the National Independence Day, we invite you to a musical journey along the path of Polish songs and songs, which in the most dramatic moments of Polish history — this ancient and quite contemporary — became a weapon of spirit and a symbol of national unity. During the period of the partitions, the two wars, communism and the PRL, as well as turbulent political changes, it was they — from Mazurka Dąbrowski, through legion songs, insurrection and occupation, to the songs of our time — that warmed the struggle, raised the spirits, added courage and became a source of hope.
In addition to such titles as O moj rozmarynie, Heart in a Backpack, Michla's Palace and Red Poppies, the voice of generations of the past decades will also be heard in the concert program. The songs Psalm standing in line, Mury, I Love Freedom, Nie pytaj o Polska — dressed in the form of a protest song, a rock manifesto, a tribute to the gray man or a metaphor describing an uneasy love for the motherland — spoke about Poland and Poles in a language devoid of pathos, but at the same time suggestive and very personal.
The magnificent culmination of the whole concert will be the song My and Your Hope, which acquired special significance in 1997, during the flood of the millennium, becoming a hymn of unity, help and faith that despite everything, in the face of even the greatest tragedy, man is not alone. This text becomes particularly relevant even today, when solidarity and responsibility for others are among the most mature manifestations of patriotism.
