info
Circle, spin, twirl to be closer to God — for centuries, the Sufi dervishes in the Syrian city of Aleppo have been cultivating their ecstatic dance rituals, with which they strive for divine perfection. This tradition has been passed on orally over generations — but it has been threatened since the Syrian civil war. With their program Last Breaths from Aleppo, the band Jawa wants to protect the spiritual heritage of the Sufis from oblivion, while at the same time giving the traditional pieces a personal, contemporary perspective.
