info
Finnish-Russian Karelia with its endless forests and sparkling lakes is a legendary, mysterious and archaic landscape in the truest sense of the word. Not only do the myths of the Finnish national epic Kalevala originate here, but also the group Värttinä, which emerged from a school band and is now one of the leading ensembles in world music. Värttinä draws his inspiration from the songs of the Finnish-Karelian musical tradition — and combines them with exciting pop and folk influences. The result is an unmistakable sound full of rhythm and poetic intensity.
