What can a chocolate bar hold? A memory of a person, a place, a celebration or a moment of care?
Join culinary pastry chef Leila Tang for a hands-on chocolate-making and storytelling workshop exploring food, memory, identity and connection.
Together, we’ll make our own chocolate bars and lollies, experimenting with flavours, textures and ingredients that can evoke memories and moments from our lives. Alongside making, we’ll taste a selection of chocolates and explore how chocolate is made, from cacao to bar, considering the journeys, histories and stories held within the food we eat.
We’ll also explore the relationship between food craft, memory and identity through packaging. Inspired by a person, place or memory, you’ll design and create your own chocolate wrapper, turning your handmade bar into a small archive of something meaningful to you.
As we wrap and prepare our chocolate to take home, we’ll reflect on wrapping, gifting and feeding as acts of care: protecting something precious, preparing it to be shared and preserving a story.
If this chocolate bar told one story, what would it say?
This workshop is part of Museum of the Home’s ESEA Programme, and is open to everyone. Suitable for ages 16+.
