About the event

We invite you to an author's meeting with Paweł Piotrowicz, who will talk about his long adventure of reconstructing the musical history of the region and what his latest book brings to this story.

From local bands debuting at the festival in nearby Jarocin, to concerts in Wrocław clubs and squats, to the guerrilla beginnings of “Anteny of Scream”; from punk rock, through reggae, industrial, to improvised and theatrical music — music from outside the mainstream found fertile ground in Wrocław. The local musical underground of the last decades of the 20th century has no better ambassador than Paweł Piotrowicz. As an organizer of musical events and concert tours, he promoted the creation of alternative bands from the region. He is the author of the multi-faceted initiative “Wrocław Independent Music Scene”, which began with a column in the magazine Rita Baum; under her aegis he resumes albums of local musicians, previously circulated on cassettes in the second circulation, as well as writes articles and conducts interviews.

In 2015, Paweł Piotrowicz published his first collection of interviews with people associated with the music community — Wrocław Independent Music Scene 1979—1989. In December of this year, the fourth volume of the series will be published, covering the years 1980—2000. This time the author looks at Wrocław's “scenes” from the perspective of the people who organized them and created them. for alternative cultural events. The voices of the residents of these places will also not be lacking. The book takes us back to the times of the Polish People's Republic, recalling legendary Wrocław clubs such as Index (old and new), Catacombs, Palacyk or Rura. It also leads us to places that were already created after the political transformation: Amsterdam, Rocker, Podium, Wagon, squat Rejon 69, Artists' Club in Jatki and Sceny. The publication, which will be available for purchase after the meeting, contains more than a hundred archival photographs and other materials, most of which have not been published before. Some of them the author will present during the meeting on the big screen.
