pl. Wolności 1, Wrocław

Art is an indispensable element of human existence, a method of conveying impressions and thoughts. It affects emotions in many ways. We listen, look, tell, read, dance in order to experience joy, emotion, gain peace or energy, and also to better express ourselves, our emotions and experiences. It is also a space for reflection and inspiration, often bringing people together regardless of language or culture. It helps to find the path of personal relationship with reality and the experience of existence, allows to build memories and gives a sense of community. A special place of formation of these ties is the Academy of Fine Arts.

About the event

Art is an indispensable element of human existence, a method of conveying impressions and thoughts. It affects emotions in many ways. We listen, look, tell, read, dance in order to experience joy, emotion, gain peace or energy, and also to better express ourselves, our emotions and experiences. It is also a space for reflection and inspiration, often bringing people together regardless of language or culture. It helps to find the path of personal relationship with reality and the experience of existence, allows to build memories and gives a sense of community. A special place of formation of these ties is the Academy of Fine Arts.

Here artists and designers work together, who at the same time create and share their knowledge, experience and skills with the younger generations. At the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław, it has been going on for eighty years, constantly and invariably, despite the exchange of generations of lecturers and students, working methods and technologies, and metamorphoses of space. In addition, what unites the institution is its mission to create artistic phenomena and to play the role of an important, active center of culture and science.

The occasion of the eightieth anniversary of the Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław makes us want to tell and show how our sense of mission is shaped and how the aspirations of creative artists and designers associated with the university are being realized. That is why, thanks to the hospitality of NFM, we propose an exhibition entitled Consonance. The work of the academic community is based on the exchange of experiences, mutual influence and the search for a common language of creative expression. It is in such relationships that ideas are born that transcend the boundaries of individual disciplines. Consonances can therefore be understood as a process of building agreement through art, openness to diversity, dialogue and the coexistence of different forms of expression.

Due to the location of the exhibition, an important context is created, and the very space of such a prestigious musical institution further enhances the meaning of the title through associations with harmony, resonance and mutual penetration of voices. Through the exhibition, joint work is symbolic, showing the Wrocław Academy of Fine Arts as an environment of diverse disciplines, media and perspectives that do not compete with each other, but inspire each other. Through the exposition, an ideological harmony is created, which is a metaphor for this dialogue. The exhibition is an example of the essence of academic activity in the field of artistic and design creativity and the benefit resulting from the continuation of tradition, openness to novum and experiment, the search for originality and uniqueness.

For eighty years, the Academy has remained a meeting place for many disciplines of the visual arts. Its jubilee thus becomes an opportunity to highlight the relationships built between different studios, experience and ways of thinking about artistic activity. Paintings, sculptures, projects and objects will prompt multi-threaded reflection and direct the audience's attentiveness to matters of spirit, emotion and poetic licentia.Beata Mak-Sobota
