On the occasion of the National Independence Day, we invite you to weave together — an activity in which a variety of skills, individual tastes and personal experiences will merge into one, symbolic form of kilim, inspired by national colors.
The inspiration for this action is November 1918, when the regaining of independence caused spontaneous joy, expressed, among other things, by sewing white and red flags. They were created from what was available and how they could be made. What mattered was not the perfection of the performance, but the need to manifest belonging and common joy.
Under the guidance of Monika Bilska “Splotka” — a specialist in the field of kilim weaving — the participants will learn basic, as well as slightly more advanced weaves and try their hand at weaving craft. Everyone will be able to weave even a few threads, adding their particle to the common work.
The resulting fragments will then be combined into one larger composition — a woven story about community, diversity and cooperation. Our weaves do not have to be uniform and perfect. They can differ in rhythm, density and way of conducting threads, just as we differ among ourselves. It is from these differences that a whole will be created that could not be created alone.
• The workshops are open - you can join the joint weaving at any time, from 10:00 to 18:00.
• We meet in the central space of the permanent exhibition of the Museum (main building, level -3)
