About the event

All the President's Men, one of the most brilliant films about journalistic work and one of the most important affairs in American history, celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. On this occasion, we are showing it as part of the Golden Gody series, and the lecture before the screening on Friday 6 November will be given by Magdalena Pańczyk from Radio Katowice.

At night, a security guard at the Watergate complex notices the tape on the door latch and calls the police. Officers arrest five men in suits, with surgical gloves on their hands and equipped with eavesdropping equipment.

The Washington Post reporter Bob Woodward (Robert Redford) is commissioned to report on the case. Soon, the editorial staff includes a second journalist, Carl Bernstein (Dustin Hoffman).

The script of the film was based on a bestselling book by the journalists themselves. The film is considered an absolute classic of cinema due to its brilliant portrayal of painstaking, realistic reporting work and a tense atmosphere of political paranoia. The film won critical acclaim and was awarded 4 Oscars (in the categories: Best Supporting Actor for Jason Robards, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Set Design and Best Sound).

Magdalena Pańczyk — journalist of Radio Katowice, author of reports on the history of Upper Silesia and energy transformation.
