Wunderkammer

Choreographer Marcos Morau knows how to translate collective memories into movement and visual language. Known for his profound, surreal visual worlds, Morau draws inspiration from a wide range of influences — from literature and photography to film aesthetics.

Wunderkammer refers to the historic “Chambers of Wonders” — also known as “cabinets of curiosities” — which served as collections of unusual and “curious” objects in Renaissance and Baroque Europe. “Strange” and fascinating things from science, art and nature were brought together and combined. Morau imagines the stage as a “chamber,” as a place full of surprises and unexpected perspectives, in order to raise the question of the “stranger” in one's own self. Wunderkammer becomes an emotional mirror of our time: a place where the boundaries between reality and dream are blurred and which picks up on the desire to belong and the need to define one's own identity in an increasingly complex world.
