Lecture by Anna December - “Memories of a Bookseller”. The Enchanted World of Stanisław Król's Book

On the last Wednesday of October, we invite you to a meeting dedicated to an unusual figure related to the history of the Kielce bookstore.

Stanisław Król was a “child of a bookstore” full of personal charm. Working in the kingdom of books, magazines and sheet music became an essential content of his life. Curious about the world and sensitive to the beauty of his surroundings, he was a well-known Kielce bookseller, remembered as a man who knew how to teach the love of books.

During the lecture, we will learn how chance caused the books to cast an unusual charm on him, to which he remained faithful throughout his life. We will get to know the backstage of the daily work of a bookseller, the characteristics of a good bookshop employee, as well as the interests and passions of the “humble servant of the saved books”.

The story of Stanisław the King will be inspired by his “Memoirs of a Bookseller”, written on the 55th anniversary of uninterrupted work in the service of the book. “Memories” is the most extensive version of the typescript prepared for the “Competition for bookshop diaries” announced by the Association of Polish Booksellers in 1959.

Anna December's lecture will be an opportunity to recall the figure of the man who, as a member of the “fraternity of peculiar devotion of lovers of printed paper cards”, made an everlasting covenant with the book.

We invite you to a meeting at the Museum of History of Kielce!
