About the event
The Szczecin Social Debate Club and the Port Szczecin Association cordially invite you to an overview of the Szczecin residential architecture created in the years 1956-70. This is one of the best periods in the history of Polish architecture in general. In 1949, it was announced that the mandatory style of building design would be Socialism. Architects were forced to design buildings according to his principles. At the same time, bold projects in the so-called modern style were being created on the other side of the iron curtain. The work of Polish architects was suppressed by government decrees until 1956, when the socialist doctrine in art was abolished. Architects were able to design again according to the spirit of the times. The new architecture was to remain socialist in content, but could finally be modern in form. The meeting will be led by Marcin Szneider — a practicing architect with a passion for theory. Co-creator of several exhibitions on Szczecin architecture and co-organizer of architectural walks through the Szczecin City Center Date: November 3 (Tuesday), 6 p.m. Venue: Port Szczecin Association (Garncarska Street 5/4, 1st floor, intercom no. 4) Free admission!
