Dimensions of Cinema on Wilson Square is a new monthly series dedicated to ambitious genre cinema. At the Wisła Cinema, we create a space for viewers looking for artistic depth and sensations in the cinema that they will not find in the traditional repertoire. After each screening, we invite you to participate in a discussion in which the film critic meets with an invited cinema expert. As part of the second screening of the series, we will preview the film “Welcome to Hope” (directed by Na Hong-jin) — the most expensive superproduction in the history of South Korea, presented in the Main Competition of this year's IFF in Cannes.
About the event
About the film:
Residents of the quiet coastal town of Hope are cut off from the world by deadly wildfires burning through the surrounding forests. Local police are receiving further disturbing reports of unusual, aggressive predator activity. Unfortunately, this is only the beginning. As people begin to die under increasingly drastic circumstances, it becomes clear that Hope has become the target of an attack by mysterious beings that resemble nothing previously known. Two local police officers try to find answers to the question about the origin and purpose of the newcomers. In order to discover the truth, however, they must first survive. The most expensive superproduction in the history of South Korean cinema and one of the most anticipated titles presented in the Main Competition of the IFF in Cannes. Asian thriller master Na Hong-jin combines the momentum of science fiction cinema with dense, uncompromising horror. Starring Hollywood stars Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander, as well as leading Korean actors, this visually dazzling, brutal and masterfully suspenseful spectacle is created about the struggle for survival on the brink of the apocalypse.
The guests of the meeting will be film expert, programmer of the Five Flavors Asian Film Festival Marcin Krasnowolski and film critic Błażej Hrapkowicz.
