We invite you to the Gallery in the Passage for an exhibition of paintings by Emebet Alemu.
The exhibition will be on view from 9 to 30 October 2026 at the Gallery in the Passage.
The opening of the exhibition will take place on October 9, 2026 at 17:00.
Emebet Alemu is a young Ethiopian artist whose unusual paintings adorn the interior of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church in Kileleshwa. Her monumental paintings depict biblical scenes, prophets, saints and angels, creating a unique and colorful space.
In his work, he uses acrylic paints on canvas, and then places the prepared paintings on the walls of the temple. The paintings depict events from both the Old and New Testaments. On one of the walls, the artist depicted the life of Jesus, from birth and baptism to crucifixion and ascension. Among the depicted figures are also Ethiopian prophets and saints, whose style is characteristic of the artist. In her work also appear: Moses, Saint George, the archangel Michael and the archangel Gabriel. The artist created several images of Mary with the Child Jesus and a separate panel dedicated to Mary herself surrounded by angels.
In the Gallery in the Passage, the artist's works will be presented in smaller formats, which will allow to look at her work from a more intimate perspective. It will be Emebet's first solo exhibition and a special occasion as her art will be shown for the first time in Europe. Thanks to her friend, Dr. Mark Butrym, who shared a collection of her works for the exhibition, Emebet will be able to see a photo report of this unique event. The exhibition will thus become a symbolic meeting of the artist with the European audience.
