Exhibition “Darek Komorek. Posters to read 1991—2026” Rogatka Gallery, ul. Malczewskiego 20A in Radom, from 15 October
Language meeting with graphics
You can quickly glance at the posters, but sometimes you also have to read them to find out what they are really about. The exhibition mainly presents posters that need to be read, and sometimes for a long time... This can be uncomfortable, stressful and contrary to today's trends of communicating more and more quickly.
These posters do not contain drawing, painting, photography or pictograms — hit metaphors and brilliant mental abbreviations — the illustration is made up of typographic forms. The posters show different ideas for the graphic writing of texts and the unusual possibilities of communicating using only printed letters — they are also proof of the continuity of the search and the durability of the ideas of the twentieth century avant-garde, not only graphic.
Some compositions are difficult to read, they represent above all the need for graphic and linguistic experimentation. Forms of writing that make it difficult to read quickly, on the contrary, are intended to strengthen the content of the message, focusing the attention of the recipient for a longer time. All posters are related to cultural events, the organizers of which were musical institutions and art galleries.
Posters with letters in the main role, forming short or longer texts, can be considered a separate literary form, which interestingly connects the exhibition with the Gombrowicz Festival.
Among the works presented there are also eccentric proposals of experimental forms of Polish letters and word records, which are a testimony to the euphoric state of the author and his head when “Gombrowicz entered it”...
