Kamil Piotrowicz — the importance of studies
During the XXI Hanza Jazz Festival in Koszalin, Kamil Piotrowicz will present the premiere solo project “wræžlivøść études”.
Piano etudes will become the starting point for open improvisation. The compositions will be freely transformed, deconstructed and reorganized before the eyes of the audience. In his approach, Piotrowicz combines romantic piano tradition with experimental thinking about sound, characteristic of contemporary improvised and electronic music.
“wræżlivøść” is an original artistic direction developed by Piotrowicz since 2024, in which sensitivity becomes the starting point for the search for new forms of musical expression.
Kamil Piotrowicz is a pianist, composer, improviser and music producer. He is the founder of the laåude platform and co-creator of the intergenre festival Idealistic. He leads and co-creates the bands Kamil Piotrowicz Sextet, Hałvva, Hirjjo, Ben Bekele, Wojtczak/Piotrowicz and Lawaai.
He is a graduate of the Academy of Music in Gdańsk, the Rhythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen and the Royal Conservatory of Music in Aarhus. He has toured in Europe, the United States, Canada and Africa. He has collaborated with Tim Bern, Christian Lillinger, Jaimie Branch, Lotte Anker, Sainkho Namtchylak and Kate Gentile, among others.
