About the event

Charismatic pianist and composer Tal Cohen will perform in Koszalin during the XXI Hanza Jazz Festival! On October 22, at the CK 105 Stage, he will meet two outstanding musicians of the Polish jazz scene — Sławomir Kurkiewicz on double bass and Michał Miśkiewicz on drums.

Tal Cohen grew up at the crossroads of different cultures and musical worlds. He was raised in Australia and today lives and creates in the United States, where he develops an international career as a pianist, composer and educator. His music combines Middle Eastern inspiration, classical sensibility and the contemporary language of American jazz. This combination gives an emotional, melodic and extremely free sound, in which improvisation plays an important role.

Cohen has collaborated with many outstanding musicians of world jazz, including Joe Lovano, Terence Blanchard, Greg Osby and Ignacio Berroa. He is also associated artistically with trumpeter and bandleader John Davers. As a pianist, he participated in the recording of the album American Dreamers: Voices of Hope, Music of Freedom by John Davers Big Band, which received three Grammy awards.

In Koszalin, Cohen will perform with Sławomir Kurkiewicz and Michał Miśkiewicz, musicians who have been at the forefront of European jazz for years, known among others for their collaboration with Tomasz Stańka and their activities in Marcin Wasilewski's band. For Kurkiewicz, this will be another meeting on stage with Tal Cohen this year — the musicians performed together during the Jazz w Ruiny festival in Gliwice in the summer.

It will be an evening based on improvisation, mutual listening and musical spontaneity — a meeting of three expressive personalities who can create a unique, unique dialogue on stage.
