XXIV FDW | EVELYN. ON THE BARREL

“Evelyn. Na baraka” is a unique, inclusive performance inspired by the story of world-famous percussionist, Evelyn Glennie...

... who, despite her hearing loss, has created her own deeply bodily way of experiencing music. The show takes the viewer through her journey from childhood to her first concert, showing the world in which sound is felt through vibration, movement and the presence of the body. The parallel use of phonetic and sign language makes the performance accessible to the deaf and at the same time opens up a new, intense experience also for hearing viewers, allowing them to “hear” more than just sound.

The project is distinguished not only by the form, but also by the authentic support of Evelyn Glennie herself, who remains in contact with the creators and expressed appreciation for the realization. Live music, multi-sensory narration and strong visual stage language create a story of determination, the power of imagination and the fact that listening can have many dimensions: accessible to everyone, regardless of how they perceive the world.

Students from the School-Preschool Team for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Children in Katowice took part in the project.

The performance is performed bilingually — both in Polish and in Polish Sign Language (PJM). Co-financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage from the Culture Promotion Fund.
