Saxophonist, composer and producer Yasuaki Shimizu has spent nearly 50 years moving between genres with restless invention. A major figure in Japanese music, he is known for chart-crossing pop, film scores, large-scale commissions, and collaborations with artists including Ryuichi Sakamoto, Björk, Van Dyke Parks and David Cunningham.
In recent years, Western audiences have rediscovered Shimizu through acclaimed reissues of his 1982 solo album Kakashi and Mariah’s 1983 record Utakata No Hibi. Blending Japanese folk with electronic and disco, they sound remarkably current decades on.
This new live show, presented in duo with his sister Mieko Shimizu, sees Yasuaki perform new arrangements of material from across his storied repertoire.
The enigmatic UK experimental-ambient artist Dylan Henner opens the show as support.
