Silent Green presents
Yasuaki Shimizu Yasuaki Shimizu is a saxophonist, composer and producer whose almost 50-year career spanned an impressively wide variety of genres. In Japan, he is a well-known musical personality, appreciated for his genre-spanning pop hits, his film scores as well as numerous top-class live commissions, installations and collaborations with artists such as Ryuichi Sakamoto, Björk, Van Dyke Parks and David Cunningham.
Shimizu's music reached a larger audience in the West through the re-releases of his iconic solo album Kakashi (1982) and the classic Utakata No Hibi by his band Mariah on the Palto Flats label. Both works are regarded as masterful fusions of Japanese folk and pop traditions with sophisticated electronic or disco production aesthetics.
In this new live program, Yasuaki performs as a duo together with his sister Mieko Shimizu. He presents new arrangements of works from various phases of his extensive repertoire.
Merma Suelo Merma Suelo (MX) is a versatile poet and sound artist. In her playing with various sound levels, she dedicates herself to oppressive continuous loops and breaks them up. Her work focuses on stories and collaging: In doing so, she combines processed, sampled instrumental material, old romantic music, field recordings and synthesizers with her voice.
Her music has been published by (+) ambién, L-KW and Other People.
