Huang He, the second largest river in China, takes its name from the color of loess soils. It is of great symbolic importance, since it was on its shores that the Chinese civilization was born. It was a symbol of resistance to Japanese invaders in the 19th and 20th centuries. “Yellow River” is also the title of Xian Xinghai's piano concerto (1905—1945). He was one of the first composers in his country to draw inspiration from Western classical music and influenced many later composers. At the same time, he reached out to the folk culture of his country. His works, symbolizing the struggle of the Chinese people for liberation during the turbulent times of the war with Japan, were very popular during the Chinese Cultural Revolution. The piano concerto preserves the classical post-romantic musical structure. It will be performed by Haiou Zhang — born in China, educated in Hanover. His artistry is confirmed by awards and recognitions of various types: from laurels for his recordings (including the Supersonic Award, nomination for Opus Klassik), through participation in prestigious festivals (Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, Festival international de musique de Besançon and others), to purely commercial successes, such as the use of his CD with Mozart's works in the cult The series “House of Paper”.
