The smell of rain over Aotearoa, the sound of the ocean and the voice of steel. The meeting with Patrycja Wojkowska begins with a tank drum game, which opens the door to an extraordinary story about a year's journey through New Zealand - the land of Maori, ferns and freedom.

This is no ordinary travel report. This is a sensitive and powerful look at New Zealand. This is a story about life-changing encounters — about a gesture of helping to repair the drums, which brought an important pounamu stone as a gift.

It is also a story about the Maori kirituhi tattoo, the importance of rituals and a culture that teaches humility towards the earth and the other person. About work, work and holiday visa and non-accidental cases. About Poles in New Zealand and how to find yourself in the world on the other side of the globe.

Patrycja takes participants on a journey through the truths and myths of colonialism, Polish traces on antipodes, everyday life among geysers and hobbits, but also into the world of emotions, sensitivity and humor.

He talks about working on farms - woofing, the Matarika festival, the kiwi bird and how to find our own rhythm in a world where each of us has to dance his hook.

In the course of the meeting

Patrycja will play the tank drum, creating a musical space for the story,

will read excerpts from the diary and book “Pākehā. Where no one was waiting.”

will show the author's slides.

It is a meeting about mindfulness - on man, nature and oneself. About looking for a home on the road and about the freedom that does not always come where we look for it.

About the author

Patrycja Wojkowska - a girl who took instruments, imagination, a rat in a backpack - but a plush one - and went out into the world.

She is the author of the book “Pākehā. Where No One Waited”, in which she observes with great sensitivity the world of New Zealand and its inhabitants.

He travels mainly on foot - on mountain and long-distance trails - by bicycle or on horseback, always with the stuffed rat Pimpur. She has lived in different parts of the world, including New Zealand under the work & holiday program, Sweden and Switzerland.

Her passion is history, culture, mountains, survival and sound. She fulfilled her dream by combining music and climbing - she climbed the Matterhorn and performed at the top on the kalimba.

He creates the series “Musical Travels”, as part of which he plays in the mountains of the world and in various unusual places.

She has collaborated as a drummer with the band Żywiołak in 2018-2021, Wataha Drums and other musical projects.
