Zabusia

The title character of Gabriela Zapolska's comedy-drama is a beautiful, energetic and temperamental woman who, however, has a specific blemish... Żabusia transforms her life and that of her loved ones into the illusion of life, its appearance, into a peculiar puppet theater, in which everything that would be incompatible in real life is possible - a devoted husband, a wonderful daughter, a loving multi-generational family and... numerous romances. Perhaps this defect is due to the inability to reconcile with the slowly passing youth, perhaps Żabusia was brought up like this, and perhaps it seems to her that this is what the present day expects of her. For have we not become a society for which delusion is more important than truth, and the intensity of experience is more important than its authenticity? The lie has replaced the truth, because the unattractive one has become unnecessary. Moreover, the truth can be painful. So, long live the lie!
