Event as part of the 14th Festival of Culture Without Barriers

“Leaven” is an abstract word that defines the beginning of bread. It is that special moment when wild yeast like a spark falls on the flour and turns it into a living dough. The leaven with which we will work preserves the memory of many generations and places. It comes from Bialystok, where housewives, including the artist's mother, passed it from hand to hand for nearly a hundred years. This unusual material carries the microclimate of the Knyszyńska Forest, and its physical trace is a delicate, fruity scent. Wild yeast is responsible for it, the beginning of which is located in a swamp in a forest reserve. It was from there that a handful of wild berries went into the sourdough jar years ago.

During the workshop, we will learn simple methods of making bread at home. Each of the people will independently prepare their own sourdough loaf and take it with them to bake it in their own oven. As a gift we will also give you a jar with a portion of sourdough and a special instruction. This biological leaven will allow you to bake bread at home in any quantity. We invite both whole groups and individuals!

Because in culture (and in the kitchen!) There is no one right recipe. YOU CAN DO THAT! AND SO YOU CAN TOO!

Accessibility and practical information

We meet in the building of the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw, which is fully accessible to people with different needs. We will operate in a spacious hall on the ground floor. Accessibility is a natural part of experiencing culture for us, which is why:

Need a moment of breathing or intimacy? Right next to the hall there is a commode, which also acts as a family room and a place of silence.

Are you bothered by the noise? No problem — you can rent headphones at the museum reception at any time.
